The climb to the peaks

As the UTV climbs the forest roads, the landscape gradually transforms. Beech and fir forests surround you, and the air becomes clean and cool. The route follows the Robești Valley, passing by stacks of logs that are reminiscent of the area’s forestry traditions. The road winds smoothly at first, but becomes increasingly challenging as you approach the Rigla and Murgașului Peaks, where the slopes become steeper and the rugged terrain tests your driving skills.

As you climb, the landscape gradually opens up, revealing panoramic views of the Căpățânii Mountains, with their towering ridges, and the snowy peaks of Parâng. The strategic road, built by the Germans during World War I, takes you under the main peak of Lotru, offering a combination of history and nature. You will pass through areas with junipers and alpine meadows, where the sky seems to merge with the earth.

Destination: Robu Peak

Upon reaching Robu Peak, at 1,899 meters above sea level, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. To the east, the Cozia massif looms majestically, and in the distance you can see the peaks of the Făgăraș Mountains, sometimes shrouded in fog. To the south, the Căpățânii and Buila-Vânturarița Mountains complete the landscape, and to the west, Parâng dominates the horizon with its sharp peaks. Here, up on the alpine plain dotted with rocks, you will feel absolute freedom, surrounded only by the wind and the wild beauty of nature.

Moments to pause and explore

The route offers numerous picturesque stops. Poiana Suliței, located at the foot of the Narățu massif, is an ideal place for a break, where you can admire traditional summer homes, known as "odăi", and pastoral landscapes that seem to be taken from fairy tales. Depending on the season, you will encounter flowering meadows or snowy slopes, each offering a unique charm. If time permits, a short detour to the sheepfold below Vârful Robu will reveal an authentic pastoral settlement, with views of the deep valleys of Lotrului.
